Vandalia's Electric and Natural Gas Aggregation rates are set for next contractual period.

Updates to Vandalia’s Energy Aggregation Programs

Vandalia residents will see some changes in the City’s energy aggregation programs beginning in 2026. Through the Miami Valley Communications Council (MVCC), Vandalia has joined with neighboring communities to negotiate competitive electric and natural gas rates on behalf of residents.

Electric Aggregation

Since mid-2023, Vandalia residents have benefited from an electricity rate of 6.57 cents per kilowatt hour, a price locked in through December 2025. Beginning in January 2026, the negotiated rate will increase to 9.04 cents per kWh, a contract that will run for one year. The new electric provider will be Constellation. The contact number for Constellation is (833) 866-3986

The City reminds residents that aggregation is an “opt-out” program. That means you’re automatically enrolled unless you choose otherwise, and you can compare rates or shop for alternatives anytime at energychoice.ohio.gov. Your utility bill will still come from AES Ohio—aggregation only changes the supplier, not the distributor.

Natural Gas Aggregation

In November 2025, Vandalia launched its first natural gas aggregation program. Partnering with 17 other MVCC communities, the City selected Archer Energy as the natural gas supplier. Archer negotiated a fixed rate of $0.6625 per Ccf, effective October 2025 (November billing) through May 2027.

The gas program is designed to provide budget stability, predictable pricing, and protection from aggressive sales pitches or risky supplier contracts. As with electricity, enrollment is automatic—your bill will continue to arrive from CenterPoint Energy with the Archer supply rate included. If you prefer not to participate, you may opt out at no charge.

What This Means for You

Both aggregation programs are intended to give Vandalia residents the buying power of a larger group while ensuring rate stability. You’re not locked in—if you find a better deal elsewhere, you may opt out at any time without penalty.

Now that a price has been negotiated, what should residents do?

The best thing residents can do now that the negotiated rates have been made public is to consider their options. You can compare the negotiated rate at energychoice.ohio.gov. This site lists a wide number of energy providers and their current rates. Note that some prices are fixed for a set period of time, and some are variable. Some options require a contract with penalties for leaving the agreement early. All of these variables should be considered when choosing your energy provider.

Are there any documents regarding the proposal from Miami Valley Communications Council available for review?

Yes. The MVCC Operation and Governance Plans for electric and natural gas are linked at the bottom of this page.

Who will send me my utility bill?

Your utility bill will continue to come from the same company. Aggregation may change your energy supplier, but your energy distributor will remain the same. The energy distributors for Vandalia are AES Ohio for electricity and CenterPoint Ohio for natural gas.

Am I locked in to the aggregation rates?

No. Residents have the opportunity to review the rates and decide if it is advantageous to stay in the group or opt-out. Compare the 6.57 cents per kWh rate with other providers by visiting energychoice.ohio.gov. The website makes it easy to compare providers and rates.

How do I enroll?

Some residents have been automatically enrolled in electric and/or natural gas aggregation. hose automatically enrolled should have received letters indicating their status as program enrollees. If you were in a contractual agreement with a different third-party provider at the time the aggregation rates were negotiated, you may need to contact the provider to enroll.
