Message from the Director
Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about the City of Vandalia’s Parks and Recreation Department. It is my privilege to serve as your Director and to share the many programs, services, and facilities that make our Community so special.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to enhance the quality of life in Vandalia by providing diverse, accessible, and high-quality recreational opportunities. Each year, more than 200,000 participants engage in our programs, ranging from preschool and parent/child activities to youth, teen, adult, and senior offerings. Whether through athletics, fitness, wellness, cultural programs, or special events, we are proud to serve residents and visitors of all ages and abilities.
The City of Vandalia is fortunate to maintain over 300 acres of parkland across 25 parks and facilities. These include our state-of-the-art Recreation Center, Sports Complex, Cassel Hills Golf Course, Art Park, Helke Park, Cassel Hills Pool, Senior Center, Vandalia Justice Center, Municipal Building, and a variety of neighborhood parks. Together, these spaces form the foundation of a vibrant, active, and connected Community.
The success of our department rests on the legacy built by past and present Parks and Recreation Advisory Board members, Directors, and Staff. Today, our dedicated team of professionals takes great pride in delivering clean, safe, family-friendly facilities and activities. We pledge to continue raising the bar, ensuring Vandalia remains a Community where recreation enriches lives and creates lasting connections.
On behalf of the entire department, I invite you to explore all that Vandalia Parks and Recreation has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you to our programs, parks, and facilities!
With appreciation,
Alicia McCracken
Parks and Recreation Director
