Candice Farst
Elected November, 1997
Candice Farst has been a part of the Vandalia community since 1979. “I married into this great city when I married Ken Farst, owner of Ken’s Pharmacy,” she said.
Farst retired from an accounting position and worked part-time in accounting and marketing for Ken’s Pharmacy. At the time she was elected to Council, she owned and operated a local art gallery, Seventh Sun Gallery. She continued to operate the gallery for most of the next decade.
Farst decided to run for Council for many reasons. She believed she has a unique perspective that would serve the City well, and she believed she could be a stabilizing force on Council.
“I have always felt confident that if I didn’t understand all aspects of an issue, I was surrounded by people that could offer a viable opinion,” she said “Those vast personal resources have served me well.”
Farst believes that primary issues facing Vandalia include truck traffic, economic development, and citizen safety. She also believes that developing a “sense of Vandalia community” is important.
“I have always been willing to put a lot of time and effort into Vandalia and will continue to do so,” she said. “I will continue to be available to communicate with citizens.”
Farst was asked to be the Vandalia Arts Program Liaison by City Manager Bruce Sucher when the city’s fund with the VB Foundation was started. Since then, she has been closely involved with the Arts Community in Vandalia.
“It has developed into a passion since I now realize the arts truly enrich, elevate, and promote our community,” she said.
Farst is also involved with Vandalia Rotary and the Vandalia-Butler Foundation’s community enrichment programs.
