Trash / Solid Waste

The City of Vandalia contracts for removal and disposal of household trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk items with the current contract being held by Rumpke of Ohio. Every owner or occupant of any building must keep garbage in approved weatherproof/pest-proof containers with tight-fitting lids or in sealed bags. Trash must be placed at the curb for pickup before 6 am on the scheduled collection day but no earlier than noon on the day preceding the pickup and all containers must be moved from the curb by 6 pm of the day following the scheduled pickup day. When not at the curb for pickup, all trash and garbage receptacles shall either be in an enclosed building or placed behind the front building line. Holidays

Rumpke recognizes six holidays throughout the year on which trash collection will not take place. These holidays are as follows:

• Memorial Day (Last Monday of May Each Year)
• Independence Day (July 4)
• Labor Day (1st Monday of September Each Year)
• Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday of November Each Year)
• Christmas Day (December 25th)
• New Year’s Day (January 1)

If any of these holidays fall on your pickup day, Rumpke will pick up your trash on the day immediately following. The trash collection schedule for the remainder of the week will be delayed one day.
