Watch the chips fly as block of Indiana Limestone come to life at the hands of five nationally-recognized sculpture artists, crafting permanent pieces of art as part of the City of Vandalia, Ohio's Public Art in Vandalia (PAIV) Program.
Vandalia "Chiseled"—the 2010 Vandalia Stone Sculpture Symposium will be the first endeavor by PAIV Program established in 2008. The limestone sculptures produced by this symposium will provide the first of what is planned to be an outdoor gallery of artwork for permanent placement throughout the City of Vandalia. These pieces of art will provide enjoyment to our community's citizens, businesses and visitors for many years to come.
The two-week Symposium will take place in an outdoor setting at the Vandalia Sports Complex, September 4-18, 2010. The entire region—schools, organizations, communities and businesses—will be invited to engage the artists in discussion and observe their work through a variety of educational and social events to include demonstrations, informal lectures, tours and receptions.
Primary funding for Vandalia "Chiseled" will come from the PAIV Program and the Vandalia Cultural Arts Endowment Fund through the Vandalia-Butler Foundation, a fund of the Dayton Foundation. Financial and in-kind sponsors will enjoy a variety of local and regional exposure. To become involved or for more information, contact Candice Farst (937) 890-4646 or cfarst@vandaliaohio.org
Vandalia "Chiseled" will be held as part of the City of Vandalia's 50th Anniversary.
